We started Amnezia as an activist-led initiative at a digital rights hackathon. Our team received tremendous support from human rights defenders, journalists, NGOs, and activists. That helped us create a tool against censorship. We want to give back to the community and support professionals in this field.
Joint Effort by Amnezia VPN and Civil Rights Defenders
Over the past year, more than 300 journalists and activists received a sponsored Premium subscription from us. We want to reach an even broader audience, so we decided to launch an open call together with our partner, Civil Rights Defenders.
Civil Rights Defenders is an independent human rights organization. They partner with and support human rights defenders who work in some of the world’s most repressive regions
At Amnezia VPN we develop tools to protect internet traffic and user privacy. It’s vital for those who:
- write about censorship and freedom of expression;
- investigate human rights violations;
- report on privacy, surveillance, and digital rights;
- cover digital security issues;
- work with sensitive information;
- carry out their work in countries with heavy internet censorship.
If any of this sounds like your work, apply for the program.
How to Apply
To apply for the program, please use one of the following options.
For any account you use, please make sure to follow account security best practices, including enabling two-factor authentication, using strong, unique passwords or a password manager, keeping your devices protected with screen locks, and installing security updates promptly.
Fill the Form
If you can provide your work email at your organization's domain or an email publicly affiliated with your project, blog or professional profile, fill in the form.
Directly via Email
If you can’t provide such details or if you work with sensitive information and want to stay anonymous, send an email to Civil Rights Defenders with a short description of your work and references (see below) at vpn@civilrightsdefenders.org.
We will need one or two reference organizations or people familiar with your work: please include their contact details and how you know them
Your application will be processed faster if you can add at least one international reference that is known within the human rights or journalistic community and is aware of your work/can verify your identity. If you have a contact person at Civil Rights Defenders, you can put them as your reference.
We recommend choosing a security-focused email provider such as Proton or Tuta
After the application is reviewed, you will receive a randomly generated key via email.
Via Signal
Signal contact is available upon request if you would prefer to use Signal to submit your information.
Let’s Protect The Free Internet — Together
As regulators and platforms tighten their grip on freedom of access to the net and the freedom of expression online itself, it’s up to us, the digital citizens, to make these issues seen.
Fill in the form if you think you are eligible for our joint offer, or help the cause if you’re not an activist yourself — send this post to someone who might use additional online protection or share it on your socials.
